As you may be aware in 2016, MBIE set up an All of Government (AoG) contract which included the procurement of research services (Tranche 2 Sub-Category: Policy, Research and Development). At the time it came as a bit of a surprise to most in the research industry. It meant basically that to undertake work with a government agency, a research supplier was required to be on the list of providers. Selection to this list was through one of two intakes using a procurement qualification process - the first in 2016 and the next one a year later.

A number of RANZ members are listed as providers. To date communication with MBIE has been relatively limited and focused on reporting and compliance. RANZ member feedback has suggested as an industry we would like greater engagement. We have questions about how the current process works and suggestions on how it could be improved. MBIE would also like to update the industry on the developments they have been working on.

So we are holding a session with MBIE on the 6th July in Wellington at MBIE’s offices for our members. This is your chance to come and meet the MBIE team, listen and ask questions. We would like a strong showing from our RANZ members to show both our commitment to engaging and how important this is to our members.

The objectives of engaging with MBIE are:

  • Obtain a point of contact for queries, increased communication going forward e.g. regular 6 monthly updates about the contract
  • Increased engagement with RANZ when changes are being made or considered to current processes
  • More transparency and understanding about how processes work
  • Increased fairness and competitiveness of the process
  • Understand possibility of changes – understand scope of what is/ is not possible (e.g. in relation to fairness amongst tiers, pricing model, updating online directory, how classified/ performance matrix/ results shown).

Note: You must register before 29 June to attend this event, as all attendees will be pre-loaded into MBIE's system and upon arrival you will collect a name tag from reception. We are also trying to set up a video link. So please indicate if you are intending on joining in person or, if available, you would prefer to join via video link (the exact set up will be worked out depending on demand).

RSVP by 29 June.
